Clydesdale MSP, Aileen Campbell met with Planning Minister, Derek MacKay to discuss existing planning regulations, in light of Patersons appeal to the Court of Session after the Reporter rejected the company’s last appeal against a decision to refuse permission for a quarry at Overburns.

Commenting, Aileen Campbell said:

"After Patersons decided to lodge an appeal to the Court of Session following the Reporter’s decision to reject their last appeal, I sought a meeting with the Planning Minister to seek clarification on planning regulations and the general principals around repeat applications.

"While the Planning Minister cannot comment on this specific case, it was a useful meeting allowing me to gain more information on the mechanisms in place for repeat planning applications. He also usefully confirmed the powers the local authority have to ‘dismiss’ similar applications without processing them - I will write to the council to ensure that, if required, they use all the powers at their disposal to help support my constituents.

"The community is scunnered by having to repeatedly fight this battle against Patersons despite the application being consistently rejected by the council and the Reporter. I will always do what I can to support my constituents to get the outcome we all want - and that is for Patersons to give up on this application gracefully."
