Clydesdale MSP, Aileen Campbell has welcomed the Scottish Government’s ?50,000 donation to farming charity RSABI to aid farmers suffering hardship following last year’s bad weather.

First Minister, Alex Salmond made the announcement at the NFU Scotland’s annual conference in St Andrews, which celebrates its centenary this year.

The grant will be administered through the farming charity RSABI who help to relive hardship and poverty amongst people who have depended on the land for their livelihoods.

Commenting, Aileen Campbell said:

"This funding from the Scottish Government to the RSABI will help support those who work on the land and their livelihoods depend on it.

"Relying on the land is no easy task and 2012 was a tough year for the farming community due to the terrible weather.

"The RSABI undertake excellent work supporting farmers who are facing difficulties and this money will provide invaluable support for their work. I would encourage any farmers in Clydesdale who feel they are in crisis to get in touch with the charity on 0131 472 4166 to find out how they can help."
