Clydesdale's MSP Aileen Campbell has congratulated the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs (SAYFC) on its 75th anniversary.

The rural-based youth organisation provides a social network for people aged 14 to 30 throughout the country. Over 80 clubs, from Orkney to Dumfries & Galloway, are affiliated to the Young Farmers with a number of vibrant YFCs operating in Clydesdale.

Marking its anniversary, Aileen said:

"I am delighted to congratulate the Scottish Association of Young Farmers as it marks this milestone in its history.

"It’s one of the largest youth organisations in the country, and as someone who has been involved with the Young Farmers, I know first hand about the key role it plays in supporting young people in our rural areas, providing many opportunities to develop skills, work with their local communities and enjoy a dynamic social life.

"Many of the YFC’s members will in future take over the reins of the farming industry in Scotland and the SAYFC play a key role in supporting the talent and harnessing the skills and enthusiasm to ensure the next generation is best placed to do so.

"Despite the current challenging economic conditions and 2 years of weather-hit harvests, Scottish farmers are optimistic about the industry’s future.

"In these circumstances, it is reassuring that in the years to come Scotland’s rural industries will continue to be in safe hands, nurtured and guided by the excellent SAYFC".
