Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for Clydesdale, has congratulated all those involved in making a success of the first of the area’s annual community celebrations and Gala Days.

Aileen took part in Lanark’s week-long Lanimer festivities, including the traditional Kirkin’ of the Cornet on Sunday 5th June, the Perambulation of the Marches, Presentation of the Loving Cup and the famous Lanimer procession on Thursday 9th June.

Aileen also took part in the Leadhills Gala Day on Saturday 11th June, presenting prizes and speaking at the crowning of the Gala Queen. Aileen was also present for the start of the Biggar Gala Week where over 120 horses took part in the annual ridings.

Commenting, Aileen Campbell MSP said:

"The towns and villages of Clydesdale are well known for their galas and celebrations at this time of year. They create a wonderful sense of community spirit as well as provide a boost for local economies and attract tourists from the wider area.

"So much hard work goes in to making these celebrations a success, and everyone involved deserves warm congratulations.

"The season’s just beginning, with more galas and then agricultural shows to come, and I’m looking forward to taking part in as many as possible over the summer. Let’s hope the sun shines for all."
