Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for Clydesdale, has thanked residents of the area for their support and good wishes since her appointment as Minister for Local Government and Planning in the new Scottish Government. Aileen has pledged to ensure her new role does not diminish her responsibility to represent the communities of Clydesdale in the Scottish Parliament.

Aileen was appointed to the post by First Minister Alex Salmond, and confirmed by a vote in the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday 25th May. As Minister for Planning and Local Government she will work closely with the new Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism, Fergus Ewing MSP, and with Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth, John Swinney MSP.

Commenting, Aileen Campbell MSP said:

"It’s a real privilege to be asked to serve in the new Scottish Government, and I am looking forward to working with First Minister Alex Salmond, Cabinet Secretary John Swinney, and the rest of the Government team to deliver our priorities for Scotland.

"My role as MSP for Clydesdale remains undiminished, and I will continue to work hard for the people of this area. I’ll be visiting four of the largest towns in Clydesdale for my next round of surgeries on Friday 3rd June, and my office in Carluke remains open for business.

"Over the last four years, I’ve dealt with a wide range of issues and constituency cases which have given me some useful insights into planning and local government issues. I’m looking forward to the challenge of serving in Government, and would like to thank all those who’ve supported me and sent good wishes since the appointment was announced."
