Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland, has welcomed an announcement from the Scottish Government that local authorities will share in a ?15million support package to help

deal with the extra costs of the severe winter weather.

The announcement, by Finance Secretary John Swinney, provides three times the amount made available last year for urgent repairs local roads and cover the extra costs of winter roads maintenance.

Commenting, Aileen Campbell MSP said:

"As the snow has cleared, everyone can see the effect it has had on our roads and pavements. Potholes are a danger to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, and the SNP Scottish Government has acted quickly to make sure local authorities have the resources they need to make urgent repairs.

"Two years ago, Labour MSPs tried to strip ?30million from Scotland’s winter resilience budget - meaning resources would have been massively squeezed in the face of two severe winters in a row. Instead, the SNP Government has been able to find extra resources to keep Scotland moving and help local authorities repair damage caused by the snow and ice.

"Local authorities will get this cash boost during the current financial year, meaning they can move quickly to deal with the worst affected areas. Once again, the SNP Government is delivering for communities across the country."
