Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland, has expressed her concern at news about a possible threat to the bus service currently linking Lanark and Hamilton via Crossford.

Reports suggest that the current operator, First Bus, is to terminate its contract for the service at the end of January, meaning that a new operator for the service will have to be found. First Bus took over the service earlier this year following the decision of the then operator, McKindless, to pull out of its contract.

Commenting, Aileen Campbell MSP said:

"A number of constituents contacted me earlier this week when they heard from other passengers on the bus that the Lanark-Crossford-Hamilton service may be under threat.

"This is a service that a great many people rely on, linking two important towns in South Lanarkshire with a number of rural villages that have otherwise limited transport links.

"I hope that SPT will make every possible effort to find an operator that will secure this route in the longer term. I will also be writing to the Scottish Government to ask what support it provides to lifeline bus services in rural areas."
