Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland, has joined Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill at the official opening of Milton Rovers YFC’s new all-weather ‘astroturf’ football pitch in Carluke on Saturday 30th October.

The new pitch was made possible thanks to funding from the Scottish Government’s ‘Cashback for Communities’ scheme. The programme invests seized proceeds of crime into projects supporting diversionary and recreational activities for young people. Other beneficiaries in the Clydesdale are in recent years have included the Biggar Youth Project and Universal Connections.

Commenting, Aileen Campbell MSP:

"Everyone at Milton Rovers is delighted with their new pitch, and I was pleased to be part of the official opening.

"The pitch was made possible thanks to funding from the SNP Government’s Cashback for Communities scheme, so it was great that Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill was also able to be there and see for himself the difference that funding is making on the ground. The scheme uses cash seized from criminals and invests in projects which gives young people a focus for their energies and talents. Kenny's a well-known football fan so I'm sure this was of special interest to him.

"I’m sure the new all-weather pitch will help all the different teams

- youth, ladies, amateurs and more - that play for Milton Rovers go from strength to strength, and I look forward to seeing their progress in the years to come."
