Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland, has welcomed the Scottish Government’s announcement that South Lanarkshire Council is to receive ?800,000 of funding from the ?10 million in grants to be given to local councils to offer free insulation measures and provide energy saving advice to households.

The funding will help thousands of families to cut their fuel bills and is part of the Scottish Government’s Energy Efficiency Action Plan, which has already invested ?15 million in the Home Insulation Scheme.

Commenting on the Scottish Government’s latest energy efficiency funding, Aileen Campbell MSP said:

"This ?10 million of funding is going to help households in South Lanarkshire and across Scotland improve energy efficiency and cut their energy bills.

"The Scottish Government is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and this scheme, which is part of Scotland’s Energy Efficiency Action Plan aims to reduce total energy consumption by 12% by 2020.

"This scheme will also help thousands of families to cut their fuel bills by an average of ?50 and enable South Lanarkshire Council to provide more energy efficiency advice, offer free insulation for its residents and help support local jobs in the energy sector."
