Proceeds from Lottery tickets fund a massive range of good causes, and have led to a windfall for Coalburn.

Coalburn Miners Welfare Charitable Society has been awarded a total of £100,500 in National Lottery funding.

Welcoming the announcement, Aileen Campbell MSP for Clydesdale described the sum as "phenomenal", and she looked forward to seeing how the charity, which already does so much for the community, develops its work.

The grant, from the Big Lottery Fund Scotland, will allow the group, which runs the One Stop Shop, to employ a community development worker to create a programme of services and activities. These activities, which will be chosen by the local community, will cover six themes including health and wellbeing, quality of life and employment and skills.

Big Lottery Fund Scotland is focussed on distributing National Lottery Good Cause funding to help people and communities most in need throughout Scotland. This is through its five-year £250m main funding scheme as well as through its small grants scheme, National Lottery Awards for All Scotland.
