SNP MSP for Clydesdale Aileen Campbell has welcomed a commitment given from ScotRail to examine what possibility there is for some of the new fleet of rolling stock, due to be deployed from later this year, to be put to use in Clydesdale.

The new rolling stock promises to deliver faster, longer and greener trains, with £475 million being invested in renewing or refurbishing the ScotRail fleet over the next seven years. The new fleet will be deployed from September, delivering extra seats, shorter journey times, improved accessibility, at-seat power points and better WiFi.

At a meeting on Monday 22nd May, Ms Campbell pressed ScotRail to ensure Clydesdale enjoys some of the benefits of this rollout, with an upgrade to the existing rolling stock serving Clydesdale stations. Ms Campbell also thanked ScotRail for the work they have done to improve punctuality of the service and the efforts being focused on making sure trains are not ‘stop skipping’, and asked for further updates on this progress.

Commenting, Ms Campbell said:

“I am pleased by this commitment by ScotRail to look at what possibility there is to include Clydesdale in the rollout of the new ScotRail fleet. One way to improve the punctuality and good running of services is investment into new rolling stock. I am keen to ensure Clydesdale enjoys some of these benefits and have asked that Clydesdale’s rolling stock be upgraded as this rollout commences.

“Transport options for many parts of Clydesdale are limited, and the train is an essential service for travel to Glasgow and elsewhere. I am therefore also pleased about the renewed focus on preventing ‘stop skipping’, and look forward to hearing further updates from ScotRail as this progress continues.”
