SNP MSP for Clydesdale Aileen Campbell has welcomed the announcement in this week’s Scottish Government budget of a package of £3 million for discounted travel for Scotland’s rail passengers.
Humza Yousaf, Minister for Transport and the Islands, today confirmed £3 million for fare offers to thank passengers for their patience during the investment and improvement of rail services.
The Minister also announced that monthly and annual season ticket holders will benefit from a free week of travel on our railways.
Alongside this, ScotRail will develop a set of fare offers for weekly season ticket holders, daily commuters and leisure travellers to ensure even more passengers can benefit.
Ms Campbell said:
“Any level of delay or disruption to rail journeys affects people’s lives, and passengers deserve to feel confident that they are getting a rail service which is value for money and works. Many in Clydesdale rely on the rail service for work and travel. That is why I welcome this announcement from the Scottish Government that, alongside a record breaking investment programme being taken forward, there is to be a package of £3 million of discounted travel being offered as a thank you to passengers for their patience during this investment and improvement of rail services.
“There are obviously still challenges and there is still much room for improvement in local travel, but I am pleased that this announcement from the Minister will include a free week of travel for season ticket holders, at no cost to them. This is broadly equivalent to the value of a freeze in fares for regular passengers. I also welcome the news that ScotRail will also develop offers for other users to ensure the widest possible benefit for everyone.”
