Aileen Campbell, Clydesdale SNP MSP has welcomed assurances from Scotrail bosses that the Glasgow Central – Lanark/Carstairs lines will see further service improvements from December onwards.

At a meeting in Carluke arranged by the Clydesdale MSP, Scotrail confirmed that the 0750 Lanark – Glasgow Central service is to have its number of carriages doubled, from 3 carriages to 6. The same will be applied to the 1650 Glasgow Central to Lanark service.

In addition to the carriage improvements, Scotrail have previously announced the introduction of later services during the week, with the 2231 Dalmuir to Motherwell service extended to Carstairs, and the 2320 Glasgow to Motherwell service extended to terminate in Lanark.

Campbell also received assurances that improvements were going to be made in some of Clydesdale’s train stations themselves, with Carluke, Lanark and Carstairs all to receive transport maps which detail onward travel mode options, as well as an additional CCTV camera each to help with station security. Lanark train station will also receive a new Ticket Vending Machine (TVM), as well as new cycle parking facilities.

Commenting, Aileen said:

“I have received many concerns from constituents about the performance of the trains in Clydesdale and have had several meetings with Scotrail and the Minister for Transport.  I am pleased this pressure means that concerns have been recognised and that measures are being put in place to help improve the rail service from Scotrail. Increasing the number of carriages on our busiest services is a sensible move from Scotrail, and I hope will offer additional comfort to Clydesdale rail users. Improvements to our train stations, as well as late night services are also welcome developments for the people of Clydesdale.

“I am always open to hearing the views of my constituents regarding transport services in order for me to put these directly to the service providers and to ensure Clydesdale has a responsive public transport service. At the beginning of the year I held a Transport Surgery in Lanark with Scotrail, SPT and Transport Scotland representatives. I would ask constituents continue to keep me informed of any concerns they have and also whether these new improvements when they come into force in December, improve their journey experience.”
