SNP MSP for Clydesdale, Aileen Campbell joined a protest walk on Saturday morning against South Lanarkshire Council’s transport cuts.

The walk from Kirkfieldbank to Lanark Grammar took place to demonstrate what the school bus service change means in practice for local children.

Organised by mum, Julia from Kirkfieldbank, the walk attracted a range of people including parents, children and local residents. Lisa Cameron MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow and Cllr Vivienne Shaw also attended to show support.

Commenting, Aileen said:

"Parents are rightfully concerned about the proposed transport cuts - the walk highlighted that routes deemed ‘safe’ often have narrow pavements, blind corners and fast traffic.

"These walking routes have the potential to damage school attendance, further inequality in the classroom and increase congestion on our roads.

"Families are expressing their concerns loudly and clearly - the council needs to listen and stop these plans from going ahead in August."
