SNP MSP for Clydesdale, Aileen Campbell has welcomed the launch of a three month pilot run for the 73 bus service through Douglas.

The bus route, which is launching on Monday 29 June until Friday 25 September, will go through Crawford, Douglas and Lesmahagow.

Ms Campbell has hailed the announcement as positive news for Douglas after residents campaigned for better transport provision. As Clydesdale MSP, Ms Campbell conducted a survey of Douglas residents last year to gather opinions of bus services in the area. The survey found strong support for improved services in order to meet community needs, boost the local economy and attract new people to the area.

Commenting, Aileen said:

"The bus pilot is excellent news for Douglas residents who have worked hard to put forward the case for improved transport services. After seeing the results of my 2014 Douglas Transport Survey, it was clear that many residents felt the area was losing out economically and socially due to difficulties with access.

"Residents can make the most of this service during this trial period and continue to make the case for a long-term solution. I will continue to liase with residents, SPT and the Rural Development Trust to ensure the community voice will still be heard come the end of the trial period in September."
