Aileen Campbell MSP and her baby Crawford dropped by Lanark’s Memorial Hall to enjoy the Breastfeeding Strawberry Tea organised by NHS Lanarkshire. It coincides with Breastfeeding Awareness week (21-27 June) and this year marks the 10th anniversary of the legislation that was passed to protect a women’s right to breastfeed in public.

Aileen also received her certificate for her parliamentary office which is one of the many ‘breastfeeding friendly’ premises in Lanarkshire.

Commenting Aileen, who’s also a breastfeeding mother said:

"I am delighted to support breastfeeding initiatives in Lanarkshire and to ensure women in Clydesdale are made to feel as comfortable as they can whilst feeding their babies. Breastfeeding is entirely natural, but it can be challenging and so anything that can be done to make it easier is to be welcomed. That’s why I was also keen to ensure that my constituents know my parliamentary office is breastfeeding friendly. We are also blessed with great breastfeeding friendly businesses across Clydesdale from Biggar’s Gillespie Centre, and Abbeys on the Green in Lesmahagow, to the Wallace Tea Room and Taylors Café in Strathaven and so many more. In addition, we are also blessed with fantastic peer support and support from NHS Lanarkshire.

"I breastfed Angus for as long as I could and am now feeding my baby boy Crawford - I know I’m very lucky that it worked for me. I want to do as much as I can to help other mums and so supporting NHS Lanarkshire’s campaign is important to me on a personal level and also because it is so important we help build the confidence of breastfeeding mums and those who want try."
